  • Its very simple. Sex is boring to look at. Even porn. Whats the longest you watched a porn movie? 5 minutes? 15? Let’s top it off at 30 minutes. Just to be safe.

Violence is not boring. Stuff like John Wick grabs you by the ass and puts you on a roller coaster.

Want proof? Look at gaming. How big are the dating sims? Now compare that with call of duty/etc.

So, me? Yeah, stop with the xxl steamy sex scenes in movies. Very rarely do they add anything more then an interlude. A time to get coffee. To look at your notifications. At best.

To be clear: I love sex. My sex.

  • Prometheus good? Your not a minority, you’re alone.

So many unanswered questions. So much alien lore down the toilet, hours of backstory takes with guy Pearce and Charlize Theron cut and thrown away. Scientist looking like mercenaries and making worse decisions then a five year old. The little clues pointing to a blade runner connection going nowhere. If david was called weylands son, what does that mean for his daughter?

I guess it works as a generic non alien body horror film.

Prometheus wasn’t cut, it was butchered to be just that. A generic scifi horror story.

  • No. Lemmy posts are always left leaning. There is no right and no center. Thats disheartening. Next to that most communities are too small so no viable discussions follow. Most communities die in months.

Then again, reddit.com doesnt exist anymore because some schmucks have taken over, resulting in obtrusive ads, profiling and tracking.

I dont post on reddit anymore. Still follow some subs though because they just dont have an alternative.

I went from 1 source (reddit) to several(lemmy, mastodon, 4chan, 9gag). And still it feels empty. Mostly because while some memes are nice, 4chan is filled with morons and 9gag… That’s a “racist app” according to its own users. But it doesn’t stop there. A lot of posts there are just vile. Not just right wing nut job, no, they are worse. And masto is mostly the same as lemmy.

  • Disco is terrible, lazy writing. It’s just endless word vomit.

I like literature, smart word play. but this ain’t that. This is just throwing everything including piss, vomit, semen and feces on the wall and see what sticks. And in a lot of early game scenes it’s this quite literally.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that Disco is not for everyone. You love it or it makes you nauseous. There is nothing in between. And you only know which one is you when you try it.

  • First you do what you, reading, learning. Then you start building stuff, repurposing old hardware.

Then you find that something breaks, the old fan in that old system quits, that linux version does something horrible to its ext filesystem because you made a configuration error. And then you look at the 100+wh it uses, 24/7.

That’s the moment I just bought a qnap which fitted my budget. (or synology or asustor)

And these run, in your use case, for decades.

    The end.

Ps: dont forget a backup solution.

Edit edit edit: decades? Yes, decades. I’ve a TS-210 to prove it. Still churning along as a backup target. I’ve never had a qnap die on me, except one time, an external ac/dc power supply died.

Edit edit edit edit: muh security! Qnap, synology, asustor bad! Yeah yeah. Don’t use the (qnap) cloud services. They are neat though and quite safe. As long as you keep thinking for yourself.

  • 50 something also chiming in.

I think the nutcases have always just been there. Hiding in plain sight. They just never had a platform. It was always “uncle jerry in the back, spilling nonsense while drinking his beer. Dont mind him.”

And that was the end of it.

Uncle Jerry now has twitter , facebook and all those other bullshit channels for furthering his bullshit. And some of us just eat it up.

I work in IT, which is more then anything else, a business of truths. Its binary. It works or it don’t. 0 or 1. Yes or no. A lot of highly trained and educated people work in IT, which is a field which only exists because of science… and blatantly ignore that same science about society, environment, immigration, economy, chem trails and god knows what else.

It’s baffling. There are a lot, i would say 1 in 10, who will spout the most insane bullshit after a few beers. About stuff “the government doesn’t want you to know.” what exactly is the government ? I work for the government but apparently I’m excluded. Im good government?

we haven’t been on the moon. Chem trails are real. Climate change is just a fad, covid is a way to control us, vaccines give cancer, polio isn’t a real disease, its made up.

    Da fuq.

I truly believe that social media, and I mean all social media should be banned. People should not be allowed to spew their bullshit. We as a people are really not ready for this. Maybe China is right with their “social score” system. Maybe stuff like the bilderberg group is really needed. We seem to need guidance. We, the normal civvies, seemingly are too hell bend on watching it all burn. And are too stupid to stop it. People like trump, inciting hate, spraying unlimited bullshit, should be thrown in jail. That’s not politics. That’s rage baiting.

The path we’re on leads to 2 things: the capitalist dystopia, think blade runner and a total melt down of our ecosystem which, ultimately, will lead to our dinosaur moment.

We are living, this moment, in a great filter event. I truly believe that. Wanna know why we don’t see, hear other planet wide civilisations? Look around you. See where this leads. Connect the dots. “do your own research.” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

In dutch they are literally called sea-hedgehog. (zee-egel)

So, while latin and all is nice, there’s always the dutch way of “doe maar normaal dan doe je gek genoeg”. Which translates into: just behave as regular, that’s more than enough excitement.

  • Leader? The pope is not just a leader. He is the divine representator of (for) god on this earth. He is the appointed successor to saint Peter, the guy chosen by Jesus himself as be the “frontman” (what Dave Grohl is to the foo fighters for you heretics ;) ) of the apostles and the bearer of the keys of heaven.

Or, at least, that’s according to true catholics.

Anyway, the pope is not just a leader.

  • Ideal is not the same, by any means, as PayPal. Read up.

With ideal you loose your money. Ideal is made from the pov of the bank and the shop selling you stuff. Its almost impossible to claim your money back without the sellers consent.

Tikkie is not the same as PayPal since tikkie only works with EU banks. (and quite possibly at this moment only NL banks) PayPal does not need a bank account. Its also not really a wrapper around ideal but thats another discussion. And mostly a semantic one so lets not go there.

Effe wat meer moeite doen en de kleine lettertjes lezen medenedelander :)

  • There is no discussion about audio quality. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. You can talk about the format, cds being less nice to handle with that awkward plastic box which always breaks. But not about the audio quality. Its measurable.

Yes, perfectly pressed vinyl can sound fantastic on very hq hifi. But it will crack. It will hiss. It will degrade each time you play the record. Thats not up for debate. How much, or how little, that is up for debate. And also, how you store your vinyl has a big impact on how they age. (but the medium will always age) Anyway :thats what you are referring too. How much. But how much isn’t the issue: it is, unmistakenly, always there. It’s physics. You can’t deny it.

On the same hq hifi setup a hq hifi (super) cd player will at the very least sound equally good. It will never hiss. It will never crack. It will never pop. It will not degrade.

Most times it will sound better. It will always sound cleaner. But we don’t like cleaner. We like stuff that creeks. We, people, like things which seem to “live”. It makes it easier to relate too. It’s why we cannot say goodbye to big steamengines of bygone eras. Its why we loooove the sound of high octane ICE’s and still use them a lot while we all know electric is probably better in every way. And the same applies to music: the pops and hisses make it sound more authentic, more alive. And this is where science goes of the rails and feelings take over. Its a slippery slope.

Op is talking about the loudness war. Look it up, its a real thing, but reading your comment you must be aware already. “remasters” these days are all most always oversteered in every way possible because… Reasons. I recently listened to a vinyl remaster of a 90s dance record: horrible on hifi. But sufficient on a Bluetooth phonogram player.

Like you said: nobody plays on hifi anymore. So its getting remastered more and more for shit setups. Sonos. Bluetooth headphones and the likes. And while sounding nice, that is a far cry from hifi.

When playing your original cd’s you get the original remaster. Not that oversteered shit on apple music, youtube or Spotify which sound horrible on a hifi setup. There is a very definite difference. Easy to spot.

And tbh: I’m guilty too. I chose the comfort (ease of use) of sonos over the sound quality of a hifi setup. In the end it costed the same and my wife is happier without the cabling. Living (together) is always compromising ;).

I get why people chose vinyl. It’s the experience. It’s like smoking cigars in a lounge with some friends while drinking brandy. But like those cigars vinyl is not the best choice. But I do like cigars and brandy anyway…

And lastly: no. Ripping LPs is a tough job taking at least the playtime of the album. Cd’s can be ripped and the files automatically named in minutes.

Is ripping LPs complex? No. But it takes a good setup and it takes a lot of time. You dont need neither when ripping cd’s.

So, anyway: physics, science, support the statement “cds are superior to vinyl”. It’s measurable. You may not like it, you may miss the authenticity but the dynamic range coming of a cd vs lp setup (of the same cost, mind you) is almost always better.

But hey, I’m no bob Dylan. Who never was and still isn’t a fan of anything digital. He swears he misses something. I don’t. I look at the science and see better numbers for cds.

And I do believe that analog recordings of anything (sound and vision) can always be superior to digital. Digital always has a max. So many pixels. So many kbit. Analog does not have that problem. The only problem analog has, is the medium on which it is set on. That has limitations. And those limitations always always result in a lower quality then what you can easily achieve with digital. At home. (for a reasonable cost) add a megapixel. Add a mbit. In the end it will and has crossed the anolog boundaries of the used mediums far and wide.
