The side bar for this community explains that this community is for discussions about the lemmy.world Lemmy instance (server downtime, upgrades, bugs, etc).
As people (including me) surged over in The Great 2023 Migration, it seems a lot of people are still figuring things out and not sure where they’re supposed to post about certain topics (which is completely understandable).
For a few days I’ve seen people from other instances (eg. lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, etc) posting in this community about things that have nothing to do with the lemmy.world instance.
Today, I’m seeing people from kbin talking about boosts (which no Lemmy instance has).
I love reading about some of these things, and learning about what’s going on on other instances and even platforms, but I don’t think this community is the place for that. Your posts are drowning out posts from lemmy.world accounts trying to ask other lemmy.world accounts about things specific to the lemmy.world instance.
If you’re account isn’t on the lemmy.world instance (eg. lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, kbin, etc), please consider unsubscribing from this community and making those posts and comments in a more appropriate community (where I absolutely look forward to reading them).
This should be pinned at the top
People seem a bit confused about where they are posting in general lol
Part of the problem is the default Kbin view which is effectively All/Hot and the other problem is that Kbin removes extra characters from “magazine” names so it becomes “lemmyworld” which sounds a little different and more inviting for general content
Didn’t beehaw defederate from you guys last night?
They did. Claiming that users with bad intentions to troll/harass their community have been joining here. Which I’m not disputing either way.
If you throw enough people in a room, there’s bound to be some assholes in the bunch.
They said they’ll consider refederating once there is more advanced modding tools and they could whitelist, etc.
I would say this is relevant discussion to this instance since it affects how our users interact. We will still be able to see and comment there, but they will not see our comments. But people from other instances still federated with us would see them.
That’s at least how I’ve seen it explained. I’m too new here to really know what the hell is going on…
I think the fediverse is just still confusing to a lot of people, myself included, and kbin was just recently federated again after the initial traffic increase required some countermeasures to keep it running. I also feel that the name of this specific community isn’t particularly descriptive and I heard on mobile the sidebar info isn’t that visible / hidden at the bottom
.
kbin related technical discussions should land in https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta.I mean, yeah…. But people are treating this like !reddit or !general.
