Earnest question, what did the $30/year get you? I never gave them a penny out of my own pocket, didn’t know why I would.
It’s a win win. Either they don’t go that, and lots of posts and comments say, “come join us here in the fediverse!”, or they delete the posts and comments which still deprives reddit of our content for them use to make money.
Copy the text of your comments to here in the fediverse and link to them directly. (or, at least to your profile page)
I’m abandoning reddit in phases. I’m keeping RIF on my phone until June 30, but will not visit Reddit like I once did. I’m participating in the Fediverse instead, posting and commenting a lot more than I ever did in the old site.
Between here and June 30, I may peek at the front page as the situation develops, especially if any news posted here indicates dramatic developments.
One or two days before June 30, I’ll edit all of my comments and posts to say I’m leaving reddit for good, while also providing links to the Fediverse and advice for other redditors to abandon the show and join us here.
I’ve still got my 4 digit account.😏
CmdrTaco!
Yeah, that sums me up, too. 😂
Yah, I’ve got the same experience. 🙁
Looks awesome, thank you! 😄
I don’t see a battle here, personally. I think this is just a downhill slope to armagedon. We’re watching Rome burn. We will likely see a continued increase of users flocking to Lemmy sites/nodes as more people become aware of what’s going on and its impact. Reddit will get UGLY, possibly on an exponential slope,.
Pass the popcorn. This is going to be one hell of a show.
(don’t get me wrong, it SUCKS. But we can’t do anything about Reddit’s foolish choices. We can only make the most of this opportunity for our new community here in the Fediverse. </imho>)
I’m excited too, but we should all be chipping in with a little donation to help keep the lights on.
Posting content and comments are good, but a bit of cash to help our new community succeed is critical.
I shall be donating regularly, myself.
Slashdot, one of the first predecessors to reddit, had ratings good comments like, “insightful”, “informative”, “funny”, “redundant”, “off topic”, and more.
I always thought it was much better than just I’ll or down vote.
This is the way it will go down.
It’s a shame.
I think breaks down to:
Sadly, more success might start undermining what’s making this a nice place. Hopefully it doesn’t, but… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you for all the amazing things that you and the other founders have done!!
I only ever lurked on reddit, but here I feel welcome and relaxed enough to actually comment. Heck, I might actually post something somewhere! 😁
When the reddit bombshell dropped, I was sad and resigned to losing something. Beehaw has turned that completely around.
Now, I’m excited to be part of this blossoming community and eagerly look forward to something much better than reddit ever was. You and the others who at the groundwork are fantastic people!
Keep up the great work! I plan to be a part of this amazing thing, doing what I can from my little corner to help out.
I mostly live in the state of exhaustion, though sometimes I get to visit the land of dreams.
Eventually, I expect to move permanently into the undiscovered country…
…I’m just not sure when.
Dracula and Treasure Island. I do so love Project Gutenberg and my Kobo
Hello to all. I’m yet another reddit refuge. Initially, I was quite bummed at the news about the API price out of the 3rd party apps that had made reddit at all usable. Having discovered Beehaw and Lemmy, I’m becoming quite glad. I’d already abandoned Twitter for Mastadon, but I never quite appreciated that the Fediverse was a thing until the Great Reddit Purge forced me to take a step back and re-evaluate my (digital) life.
I’m now quite glad those bastards are putting the last nail in that particular coffin. I’ve known the Internet from when it was young, and I remember the nettiquette of olde. This place has the feel of those days. It’s nice and refreshing.
I’m an avid computer and cyber security geek with a love of reading, music, programming, sysadmining, teaching, and many other things. It’s great to be here with ya’ll, I’m excited to be part of this great community! :-)
