Does Lemmy have a Confidently Wrong community yet?
Does Lemmy have a Confidently Wrong community yet?
To be fair, I think their actual national pastime is Cricket, which is significantly more boring.
I’ve never had them, so I can’t comment on their taste, but aesthetically, it looks like a dish you’d be served in a Soviet prison.
I mean, yeah, but that’s so much better. Sure, our food sucks, but it sucks in such an elevated way that it’s almost an art form. British food seems like it was made by a guy desperately trying to put together a meal from ingredients he bought at a gas station. American cuisine seems like it was made by a chef who is losing his sanity to Lovecraftian horrors beyond our comprehension. The world looks at beans and toast and laughs at how pathetic it is.They look upon the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco and weep, for they now know there is no God.
…or you don’t start a public community on a public website if you don’t want input from the public? Also, the other mods on /c/Vegan removed the Mod responsible for this ban wave, so it seems like they agree with me that downvotes aren’t grounds for community bans. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Alright, well I didn’t realize creating a private community was such a hassel, but I still don’t see why I’m expected to hide from this community when they post antagonistic shit. If they want to insult people who eat meat, fine, but then you have to deal with the fact that the people you just insulted might downvote you. It’s not my job to help them insulate their echo chamber.
The mod isn’t banning people for debating in the comments. A lot of people the mod is banning (myself included) are people who only downvoted posts. Considering that a large portion of the posts are blatantly antagonist things like this, it easy to see why they’re getting downvoted. If you’re going to insult 90% of the users on an instance, then you’re going to get downvoted.
The mod could have made the community private so they could insult people without consequences, but instead, they decided to remain public while banning anyone who downvotes their insults. They want to continue to antagonize the instance while removing the instance’a ability to respond. They want to artificially lower the number of downvotes they get, so it doesn’t look like their antagonistic bullshit is as unpopular as it is.
Everyone could block the community, and if you choose to do that, that’s a reasonable response, but it shouldn’t be the only response. We should be able to express our opinion about the content in our feeds, even if it’s just downvoting it. Why should an entire instance be expected to hide from one abusive community?
I guess I could, but I don’t feel the need to turn my feed into an echo chamber. I’m not going to go to the community to pick a fight, but I’m not going to hide from content I don’t agree with. I’ll just downvote it and move on. Besides, the OP is right; if the mods don’t want their community to get downvoted, it’s their responsibility to make their community private, not my responsibility to block their shitty content.
Bullshit. I’ve never once commented in your community, but you banned me today, probably for downvoting the obnoxious, self-righteous memes that your sub periodically dumps in my feed. And surprise, surprise, now that you’ve banned this, “carnist rhetoric,” your downvote percentages don’t look so bad! You went from only getting 40% to 70% upvotes on posts to 80% to 90% in the last 8 hours. You’re not giving people a, “well deserved time out,” you’re gaming the numbers to manufacturing consent.
The worst part is I actually defended you guys during the catfood debacle, saying that no matter what you thought of the content, the admins were way out of line to override your moderating decisions. If I’d known you were going to be as petty and manipulative as they were, I would have kept my mouth shut. On the bright side, your naked attempt to make your community look less unpopular is the best argument I’ve seen for anonymizing voting on Lemmy.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure I just got banned from that community and I’ve literally never posted in it. I’ve downvoted some posts, but they’re all pretty antagonistic, so what else else am i gonna do when it shows up in my feed?
Yeah, Hoffman is great, but he’s not some infallible authority on every brewing method, though people treat him like one. In his video on specialty moka pots, he covers the Bialetti Brikka, the only moka pot that produces crema. He ignores all the very specific instructions that come with the Brikka, like use only 280 mls of water and don’t pre-heat it, then uses a random base rather than the special-sized base that comes with it, and fails to get it to produce crema. I still see coffee snobs claim that the Brikka doesn’t work because of that video.
For sure, but that second layer of confirmation when you get home is good to have. The fake in this picture is very obvious, but the GBA games can be a lot more subtle.
It can actually rip entire cartridges, so if there’s a game out their that you can’t find a rom hack of, you can make your own ROM, or make your own home brew version on GB studios.
For any GB, GBC, and GBA fans, I highly recommend the GB Operator from Epilogue. It’s a super simple USB device that will not only play your games and back up your saves, but will also authenticate your cartridges. It’s great for something like Pokémon Ruby and Saphire, which has a lot of bootlegs floating around.
You could throw that spider off the 50th floor, it would be fine: https://youtu.be/f7KSfjv4Oq0?feature=shared
And yes, I’m on .world, but very little of my identity is tired up in my lemmy instance, and I’m certainly not going to bat for the .world admins when they do something crazy.
Well, various vegan catfoods have been approved for use in not only the U.S. but also the E.U., but your point about regulatory capture is fair. Unfortunately, it’s undercut by your support for vaping, a nicotine product brought to market with an insane lack of oversight. Ironically, most of what you’re complaining about with the cat food is exactly what makes vaping so dangerous. We don’t have as much research or long-term studies on the effects of vaping to say it’s as dangerous as smoking, but we know that they contain propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, which are toxic to cells, aldehydes, which are associated with lung disease and heart disease, acrolein, which can cause COPD, asthma and lung cancer, as well as various heavy metals. I’m pretty sure that a lot more people will die of vaping than cats will die of veganism. That being said, I don’t think people who support vaping should be removed from lemmy for using a product that’s probably unsafe, and and it’s not the job of admins or moderators to stop people from taking bad health advice from strangers on the internet.
Maybe, but this seems like a problem that’s bigger than a single instance. A few months back someone came with some pretty good receipts showing .ml admins going after people for having some very fair and moderate criticisms of China. Seems like most instances either have power tripping mods or are too small to have much activity.
Yeah, to be clear, you should not feed your cat a Vegan diet. Cats are obligate carnivores. Synthetic Taurine has made vegan catfood somewhat more viable, but cats don’t just need Taurine from prey. They need several vitamins, amino acids, and fatty acids from animal protein to survive. Beyond that, their digestive tract isn’t very efficient at digesting plant matter, so even if these foods have the nutritional value they need, they might not be absorbing it. Also, a lot of these products seem to be made from grains and other carb heavy products, and cats need a very low carb, high protein diet. If you want to completely divest from the meat industry, you simply shouldn’t own a cat.
That being said, Vegan catfood products are on the market, so whether or not they are good for cats, they have been approved by several regulating bodies. You can claim that they’re unsafe (I certainly do), but having an admin nuke a comment section for claiming otherwise is a huge overreaction. It would be like going into a vape community and banning accounts that claimed vaping is safer than smoking; it probably isn’t, but I don’t need admins deciding who gets to have discourse about that.
Finally, I’m also not a fan of dead cats, but if you’re dumb enough to take veterinary advice from an internet vegan group, you’re probably too dumb to keep a cat alive anyway.
I mean, the point of a mermaid isn’t that it’s a sexy looking fish, it’s that other than its tail, it looks like beautiful human women. In some stories, sailors don’t even realize they’re taking to mermaids because their tails are underwater. Also, mermaids were generally considered bad omens or malicious entities, and when they did seduce humans, it was usually to kill them, so it’s not like the folklore was very pro-mermaid sex.
