At the end of the day, these uncommitted voters contributed to the problem because they lacked the capacity to think strategically in their voting and lacking comprehension of the FPTP voting system we have. They seem to lack the fundamental understanding that there was a competing electoral group that Harris needed to obtain, like the large Jewish community in these key battleground states like Pennsylvania. Damned if she did; damned if she didn’t.

Golly, it’s almost like there’s a reason why Musk dumped $75 million dollars in attack ads with directly opposite messages, targeting both Muslim and Jewish communities in Pennsylvania at the same time? Were you aware of this? Evidently not.

So while Harris pushed for more aid into Gaza, sought a two-state solution, sought a permanent ceasefire, tell me… What did Trump promise? Oh yeah… “Finish the job.” Again, good luck.

I know this isn’t popular, but because I’ve literally never seen a substantive counter-argument for this, I have to say that I think Merrick Garland did all that he could given the stacked courts surrounding him. Nobody could’ve done better. He was clearly building a case from the bottom up that is a classic example of RICO prosecution style, hence the largest criminal investigation in the FBI’s history when going after those who committed January 6th. That was always going to lead to Trump. People, however are dreaming and romanticizing this belief that we could’ve “got” Trump within one year’s time and that was never possible.

The only thing that matters is that many Americans knew what Trump was, and a large swath opted to sit out and go, “Both sides!”

We couldn’t even convince the proverbial jury that was the American people of crimes in plain sight when they gave a verdict on November 5th.

We were close to holding right wing extremists accountable. We needed one more term at least. It was clear how suddenly Republicans try to denounce the FBI as a liberal institution after Wray said that white supremacists were the #1 domestic terrorist threat.

Now, we’re fucked.

I truly cannot grasp how uninformed one has to be to claim to be for Palestinians but think helping Trump’s odds was strategically better. Such profound ignorance is on par with maga, themselves.

On another note I want absolutely nothing to do with Mehdi Hasan. I supported him for quite some time but he got tunnel vision to such a degree he ended up thinking completely irrationally and contributing to the problem. He’s venturing into Jill Stein territory for me.

This not to mention down-ballot congressional races.

But there are conservative-leaning never trumpers who have an ounce of moral standards that doesn’t let them vote for Trump who is unquestionably worse than Liz Cheney in every way (namely, she didn’t try to overthrow democracy on January 6th and continue to peddle the Big Lie).

I feel Immediately following elections Democrats need to pivot into this one-part educational teacher mindset to dispel common myths on us history and civics (eg, “The Dems were the slavers!”), and one-part activism. Every election cycle we fall for the trap of letting the blind lead the blind. To carve out the winning electorate by whatever means necessary as you say. But when do we actually try to nudge Americans in the right direction? This is what I commended Warren or Sanders for because they built a movement around where the country needed to go through facts and conviction and persuaded people.

Democrats rarely persuade and equally fall for whatever bullshit narrative Republicans design.

I wish Dems would start spitting fire and come out with an ad going through the list of prejudices throughout our history.

Investigations into the 2020 protests found that the vast majority of protests were peaceful and a majority of the violence was instigated by counter-protesters.

It’s hard to say. A combination of factors. Knowing them all really well, sincerely loving them and wishing to see the best of them all. Trying to act as a sort of translator for incessant miscommunications between them… As though people are operating on different frequencies. Addressing secondary factors that were contributing to stress or altered mental states… Also just a lot of time. These things can’t be rushed and resolution probably couldn’t have ever happened under a quicker timeline than 2-3 years with baby-steps and leaps of faith at the same time. It’s very delicate and you’re right there are unhealthy ways that force people back into things they were uncomfortable with. I made an effort to avoid that. I bore witness to my older sister going through this when my parents separated in earlier years and I learned a lot about how people argue and in different ways and what they’re really after. Long discussions, 6-8 hours long for weeks on end. Standing up to my parents at different times. I probably stopped my dad’s suicide or worse and I stopped my mom from her own downward spiral of depression.

Anyways, yeah those were hard times. Combine with my wife being pregnant with our first born and raising a newborn during this time, during covid, while we both work at hospitals — while my parents were living under our roof — was the extra cherry on top lol… I think we all came out better in the end, though.

Both my wife and I come from divorced parents and make a concerted effort to never do that kind of shit and to never let our children suffer from that. I’m very fortunate in that respect as well.

A specific day? I’m not sure. But I helped put my family back together after an absolutely brutal year that went straight into the pandemic. I brought my divorced parents back together. Not together-together, but they’re friends and we all hang out together. I care for my mom with my wife and sister’s help; got her much healthier and off alcohol. I care for my dad and got him independent. I helped mend their relationship. I mended my relationship with my brother who I didn’t speak to for years in lieu of this fallout and after battling it out with literally hundreds of thousands of words back and forth in letters.

I have one last puzzle to solve. In time, hopefully…

I’ve been so happy and grateful to spend time with my family largely as a whole again. To see my parents brighten up so much while playing with their grandkids is something I’ll always have as a core memory. Takes me back to my own childhood, too.

When asked if I’m better off now than I was 4 years ago, I can’t answer more instantly and definitely yes. I never want to go back to those terrible years, where covid was the least of my issues. Sure there is a lot of chaos in the world right now and this election is making me anxious, but I know my kids and family are much better off than what people are dealing with elsewhere in the world right now and I refuse to take that for granted.

So I guess I’m expressing a more slow burn of contentment.
