So, no phone, no compass, no map, no nothing?
Yes. Having navigation support on the wrist is really helpful and reduces distruption if implemented well.
This is not the same thing. Apps for hiking like komoot have many special things for hiking during preparation and during hike itself.
BTW, any info about pixel watch update policy?
You are welcome. Komoot is good. What I find attractive offline navigation requires a one time map purchase, not a subscription.
Wearos screenshots I see do not look interesting.
This type of on-the-watch navigation komoot offers for 2 years or so.
And generally for hiking komoot is the best I found.
The thing is more complicated than than. Moreover, there is a wish/needs to train/fine-tune models locally. This is not comparable to initial training of chatGPT like models, but still require some power. Juts today I read that some pixel 8 video improvement features will not be ported to pixel 7 because they need tensor 3 power.
New technology brings new risks. Sell stuff via the internet? Are you crazy?
I assume they simply expect that the risks can be addressed.l. and generally I tend to agree with them. We somehow managed the fact that Google search results are not 100% accurate or Wikipedia articles can be hijacked.
I have a different impression about new AI features backporting plans, but we will see. My point is that ai targeting HW can potentially drive the next smartphones evolution, which is slowed down currently.
The same things people say about every new technology: computers, internet, smartphones etc. I use my smartphone very differently compared to 10 years ago. And apps which existed 10 years ago are very different now and require different HW. CPU progress is slowing, but AI focused hw could be the next wave.
if wired charging has no any benefit one can “sell”, this is a downgrade.
It looks like hardware improvement is shifting to AI capabilities. If so, in 7 years pixel 8 will be hardly interesting for anyone from the target audience.
Not that many. Strange that they did not pitch wired charging as faster or less power consuming or something like that…
This depends on how you define “support”. Reddit plans IPO, having more active users helps with this. If you post there or answer other people you contribute to Reddit value as well.
You don’t need to spend any time on reddit or even make an account to take advantage of that functionality. You just Google your question and add reddit to the end and voila.
I was talking about asking my specific question, not googling for information.
Thanks for the list - agree - these communities are are rather alive, what is promising.
Good for you. I have a very mixed experience.
This is true, but also subjective. How do you define enough? Enough to doomscroll or enough to check for 10 minutes daily? All we really need to be self sufficient is enough content to keep people coming back regularly, we don’t need to replicate reddit.
Right, this is subjective. For me the main criteria is: if I want to get an answer to a question, especially a non trivial one which is not releated to lemmy/fediverse - I should better go to reddit. And I think lemmy should better replicate reddit with this
This seems like an exaggeration. Most communities that have quality content also have quality discussion, in my experience.
Probably, can you give me example of such communities which are not about fedeverse, technology, foss or memes?
30,000 range for MAUs before the end of the year, … current userbase is fairly well established and self sufficient.
I see it differently. It looks like the majority of communities struggle with not enough content/discussions, many de-facto are blogs of mods/creators where others are passive subscribers.
yes, but google itself claimed nothing. If it would really reduce heating and reduce energy needed to charge the watch - google would mentioned this - this is good for the environment.
according to data I have seen charging speed improvement is formal like 65 min instead of 70 for 0 to 100% and same time from 0 to 50%
I assume that the real reason either cost reduction or space for extra sensors.
