faythofdragons@slrpnk.netto News@lemmy.world•Trump unveiling 2028 campaign hats: ‘Soft launching a fascist dictatorship is insane’English9·13 hours agoTo put on my own conspiracy hat for a moment, he’s getting set up to be the fall guy. He’s following a playbook he didn’t write, the people that did write Project 2025 know how unpopular it will be, and the final play is setting trump up as the tyrant to be deposed by a real dictator. Sure hope I’m wrong.
faythofdragons@slrpnk.netto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did the western world just suddenly go back to pretending wrestling is "real" for some reason?English3·2 days agoOkay, so as a teenager I was a super nerd and got into swords. I took olympic style fencing lessons first, then got into the ren faire and also did some stage combat. Sadly, I have health problems and I couldn’t keep my knees in place, and had to quit. The difference between those is probably the same difference between WWE style wrestling, and BJJ. One is done with choreography, one is a competition.
They’re both sports. I don’t understand why people think the choreography somehow means it doesn’t have skills or rules? It was the same skillset, different rules. Stage combat was unpadded and used heavier weapons that left more bruises when we fucked up the choreography. They’re different, sure, but the amount of overlap is underappreciated.

So many of my classmates developed an eating disorder or just started using drugs because the “strung out supermodel” look was what everybody wanted.
Its just a precursor carrying the same message kids are gettimg today. That you’re worthless if you don’t look the right way, and you should hurt yourself to look the right way.
faythofdragons@slrpnk.netto World News@lemmy.world•'Andrew Tate phenomena' surges in schools - with boys refusing to talk to female teacherEnglish11·6 days agoIt’s from a federal law passed under the Bush administration, tying funding to standardized testing scores.
But it was bipartisan, so you’re not wrong.
faythofdragons@slrpnk.netto World News@lemmy.world•'Andrew Tate phenomena' surges in schools - with boys refusing to talk to female teacherEnglish3·6 days agoIt’s honestly wild to me that people in my age bracket can grow up with heroin chic, and think it somehow just vanished into the ether. I don’t know why it’s so hard for them to understand that kids are just getting hit with an evolved form of the same bullshit message that you’re worthless if you don’t fit a specific aesthetic.

You’re telling me the bees get the munchies when they smoke…
From what I understand, this is sorta like a hangover from pre-DNA taxonomy. We went “yeah, those all look like fish, we’ll put them in the fish group”, only to find out later that a bunch of them weren’t very closely related at all. So now we have a ‘fish’ group that’s a total mess, and we’re in the middle of getting it organized and re-labelled.
Obviously, the Greek hero Spiracles also rhymes with the bees

Why else was Obama’s campaign so effective? It was pitched as if our protests had actually worked and somebody up top was finally listening.

It’s kinda weird around here, because the law doesn’t ban paper bags, but all the stores around me stopped carrying them in favor of thicker ‘reusable’ plastic bags.
At least the ‘reusable’ plastic bags fold up and fit nice in my purse, so I can actually reuse them, but I’m pretty sure most people treat them as single use plastic.
But this is the digital age, so it’s clearly e-migrating.
Babe, wake up, the latest black fax just dropped
