Gandi got sold 2 times
Basically the company went from “no bullshit” to “just another asset for some capitalist fund who only cares about extracting as much value as possible”
It would be so good to have a no profit owned or cooperative European domain seller

The filter is being a pet peeve of mine too these days
I would like to be sure that I’m filtering stuff but looks like filters on miniflux and freshrss just work on future articles so I should do something like put a filter to an rss feed I control and then post and check if it works
ex_06@slrpnk.nettoLemmy Support@lemmy.ml•Federation not working properly in my community?2·3 months agoOk i took the time to write from my masto under that post and it did show also on Lemmy
I’d say it’s something about either lemmy.ml or mastodon.social or both
The mastodon instance I use is on 4.3.5, mastodon stable looks 4.3.6 and mastodon.social is on 4.4.0-nightly…

ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times52·3 months agoWe can agree to disagree for the tweets but I’m not sure that I agree on the part about throwing a good organization built on solid principles because of one person tbh. Yes he is not a random employee but on the foundation board there are also people like Tim Berners Lee…
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times222·3 months agoYe and if they owned servers they would need to pay electricity and internet connections to some capitalistic operators
If they had even solar panels they’d still buy them from capitalistic companies
If they even owned solar panel production they’d still buy materials from capitalistic mines
If they’d also buy the mines they’d now need some form of army to defend them or they’d need to pay some capitalistic mercenaries company
You understand that we have to start somewhere, right?
the second they don’t have enough donations to pay the bills the messenger will seize working
It’s a bit like worrying about donations to Wikipedia or the internet archive honestly. They are so big that probably a lot of people would stop them from failing.
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times813·3 months agoThe situation in the US makes pretty clear what fascism is and who Trump fans are
2 tweets in which he said that the republicans could help small tech are definitely not enough to be called either (fascist or Trump fan) imho
But it’s not a hill I’d die on. Still a foundation, still not easily sold to a random rich guy, still other members on the board and so on. Opinions are opinions but facts are here to stay and I can trust that organization still much more than others even if one person of the board went crazy. Organizations over single people ftw
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times1219·3 months agoFascism is when selling his own business to a foundation to ensure that it is more immune to capitalism?
Nah, I’d say no. He said shit but happens to everyone.
Here is the full board btw https://proton.me/foundation
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times171·3 months agohttps://signal.org/blog/signal-foundation/
I never read “VC funded” as someone who donated money and also was a VC. To me it’s always Venture capitalists investments asking for power and margin returns. Hence also it makes the product much more prone to enshittify to keep the numbers go up
Signal is none of this but yes, got a headstart by someone who happens to be also
a VCa rich person?Edit: I edit because I cannot find anything that links Acton to vc activities actually 🤔
ex_06@slrpnk.netOPMto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•VC Funded tech betrayed me too many times161·3 months agoSimplex is vc funded and doesn’t have a business model so nobody knows if it will ever be sustainable, I won’t pass any of my chats to it until they figure out their stuff.
Tuta too is for profit even if not vc funded. So the risk of easily getting sold is always there and tbh I don’t like giving money to for profit vertical companies unless necessary.
Btw no company is anti compliance. They fight in court but in the end they will comply, they have to…
right there, yes (for real, i opened just to answer picard)
I love software, it also works for me now :D
To not let this pass as a random problem of my instance, yesterday night i also did a test with opening the feed in the browser itself and also addind the feed to reeder (the ios app) without using freshrss
So i don’t think it was on my end, unless it was something bigger like routing (i did not try via vpn, didn’t think it was necessary)
I don’t force any user agent so idk which one is the default (it’s freshrss on Debian on a raspberry in my house)
ex_06@slrpnk.nettoLemmy Support@lemmy.ml•How to mod/admin when you personally block rude users?2·4 months agoIdk if this is still possible but 2 years ago I was blocked by a person that I was trying to mod and so the only thing I could do was deleting the whole convo+post lol (obviously they went on mastodon to shit-talk the whole server)
The broader you make a community, harder it will be to feel like you can make a very specific question and it will also be harder to find so we will never have niche content
Pick your poison, I’d go for the slow but steady usefulness
Try to be informed about the stuff you can have an impact on
For example on my rss feed I just wiped out most of the non EU stuff. It’s ok to know that there are wildfires somewhere in the world but being overexposed is really just toxic
I can organize here in Italy, not even the whole of it but my region and the cities I spend time in. It’s much better to know what my little city council is discussing about rather than any even major event but so far from me.
Unluckily, social media doesn’t help too much with curating the feeds but as others said try to work more on mutes and filters. Don’t forget that getting informed is just one tool for change, do not get too high on it :)
Edit and P.S. : it’s also much easier that on social networks driven by engagement algorithms the posts that travel the most are the ones that cause hate/rage and sex or generally emotions easier to exploit online. Newspapers themselves tend to post more negative stuff. It’s just a human bias, take it into account and watch around yourself to find the positive stuff of life
Yes… But where u.u
