Last year there were reports about contracts that scholarship students from China had to sign. It’s not too far a stretch that students reported the professor for fear of repercussions based on such contracts.

If it’s illegal in Australia and Australia decides to prosecute, then you use Australian law in front of an Australian Court.
Here the harmed party and the alleged offender are both Spanish citizens. If there’s a Spanish law and ‘Spain’ decides to prosecute, they’ll use Spanish law in front of a Spanish Court. A Spanish Criminal Court can’t sentence someone on the basis of Australian Criminal law.

Concerning the karma farmers and other spam bots: A lot of active redditors who reported them as soon as they cropped up aren’t on the platform at the moment. And some people might make use of ‘the troubles’ to set up new bots or for promotion. The last I’ve seen of those (before blackout) were people gifting karma/coordinate upvotes via subs somehow affiliated with Temu (some newish cheap shopping platform).
