Having AI being used to improve our lives and our material reality seems like a very good idea to me though…

KrasnaiaZvezda@lemmygrad.mlto US News@lemmygrad.ml•Trade war fallout: Cancellations of Chinese freight ships begin as bookings plummet. Overall U.S. imports are at -64%.13·21 days agoCan’t wait to see what secondary effects all of this will have.
The Journal says the cause for delay involves a temperature-regulating part called a heat exchanger. Boeing had been getting them from a supplier in Russia, but when that country launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and trade restrictions were put in place against Russian goods, Boeing started getting them from British and American suppliers. But they haven’t been able to make as many. The heat exchanger is one of “a few key parts” that Boeing has told staff is behind a 787 slowdown in a memo last week. Combined, the 787 and the also-delayed 737 Max make up 98% of the planemaker’s current order backlog.
Hopefully it gets worse.
KrasnaiaZvezda@lemmygrad.mlto US News@lemmygrad.ml•Record numbers in the US are homeless. Can cities fine them for sleeping in parks and on sidewalks?11·1 year agoInstead of sending them to jail, which is bad but they would at least have a roof and food, they will probably take their sleeping gear on cold days to make sure not all survive. Then they will probably still try to blame it on anyone trying to help the homeless, as can be expected from fascists.
KrasnaiaZvezda@lemmygrad.mlto Late Stage Capitalism@lemmygrad.ml•AI as Algorithmic Thatcherism4·1 year agoFirst of all, AI is a tool. But unlike a nuke the workers can have access to it, at least to some degree, allowing people to use it to deal with capitalists’ AI.
The real issue is not only that AI doesn’t work as advertised, but the impact it will have before this becomes painfully obvious to everyone.
The impact on manual labor will take a while though (because it takes time to build all the robots that will be needed), so as everyone that can WFH gets automated forever all these people can be brought to our side to revolutionize society. It’s eitheir that or hunger after all…
Me and a lot of people I know use it to help learning new things, for example. Who wouldn’t like a personal teacher to teach you what you need? That seems very useful to me.
