I feep bad for the 19 year old who got dragged along by his dad, but honestly as an endeavor it was kind of begging for a disaster to happen. Like if you go back and look at interviews from a while ago the guy is talking about how bullshit the safety regulations are and how hes not going to follow them because thats what innovation is all about.

The American people were impoverished and neglected before the war in Ukraine, and they will be after. Letting Russia wipe out a vulnerable ethic group won’t get you free healthcare.

Regardless, we could fund a universal healthcare system half a dozen different ways, and the American people would still save money not having to pay subsidies. The idea that it’s a hard thing to fund in the richest country in the world is one of the biggest lies i government. The reason we don’t have one isnt because we can’t come up with the funds, it’s that your politicians hate you and love pharma money.

And the idea that the reason our programs at home are underfunded is a result of foreign aid is complete bullshit. They could fund those programs in a heartbeat at any time with or without a war. We could absolutely do both, the reason we don’t is because none of your politicians give a shit about you, unrelated to what’s going on in the world.

Honestly the whole concept comes off as pretty ghoulish to me. Tourism trips to a mass open grave. Like going to Auschwitz for the hell of it and skipping the museum.

Eh, I know about the alternatives and they’re all clunky messes that will probably never have anywhere near the same userbase as reddit. Even if they do, they won’t function the same way.

I don’t mind Lemmy, and if Reddit continues to shit the bed I’ll probably switch over fully, but I would much much prefer that Spez backtrack on all the recent garbage and just have stuff go back to business as usual.

I like having all my content aggregated to one space. A big selling point of lemmy and other federated systems is that they’re “more free”, but until a month ago everything was fine. I’m a queer guy in Portland. There are violent extremists in my town who want to kill me, and are organizing and rallying. I’ve seen them in the streets, and they’ve attacked people and places I care about because they know that the left wing is broadly non-violent, and that cops are on their side.

Looking at the political climate in the US, I don’t think it’s too unreasonable of a reaction to buy a gun and learn to defend yourself, just in case.
