For years the U.S. media has repeated unfounded claims that China was suppressing the majority Muslim population in their Xinjiang province. During the state visit, Biden and Modi released a joint statement declaring the U.S. and India as “among the closest partners in the world.” The two also signed “deals on defense and commerce aimed at countering China’s global influence.” (Reuters, June 22) However, neither Russia nor China were mentioned by name.

The red-carpet treatment was an obvious attempt to drive a wedge between India and its partners in the financial/trade alliance BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Growing increasingly concerned about developments like BRICS, which threaten the U.S. dollar hegemony, Biden’s meeting with Modi was clearly an effort to sabotage the alliance.

Just how successful Biden was is questionable. While agreeing to buy U.S. weapons, Modi refused to criticize Russia or China, refused to go along with sanctions on China and Russia and refused to back away from BRICS. Without a more public offering from Modi, Biden seems to have come away from the table with mere crumbs, plus egg on his face. All the attention given Modi did not sit well with some members of Biden’s own party.

    It is just US is a declining power, they want to doom everyone when they are going down itself. India is in QUAD and others and we have a fascist government but from what I have seen most are only for economic purpose and not for indo pacific alliance. India also has a weak manufacturing base, even people from the fascist parties know that any war with China will be fatal for us. 2ndly , we are not as homogenous as China and Ukraine. There are 2000 ethnicities and languages and schools of thoughts in religion. I doubt in the time of crisis or extreme poverty any government can keep hold of itself. I mean you can’t militarize India even if you try.

      However dumb may India has gone in these 10-15 years, electing a fascist govt, but given its history it still has a very deep rooted awareness of how cunning US can be. It’s not easy for USA to play India into going against China. India, Chaina border conflict is gonna be resolved as soon as the India sees a leadership change.
