Hi,

I am completely new to servers but have recently purchased an HP Proliant DL380p Gen8 to start learning with. All was okay, managed to get RAID setup and get Hyper V Server 2019 installed to it. This booted fine multiple times (more than 20), and I could access the Hyper V Server OS etc.

I have been following a guide to setup Hyper V Remote manager (https://timothygruber.com/hyper-v-2/remotely-managing-hyper-v-server-in-a-workgroup-or-non-domain/) and as part of that you need to update your Hyper V Server 2019, so I did this, and it prompted me for a restart. Now upon restarting it will not get past the POST “Processor Initialization in Progress”, it gets to this stage and reboots the server by itself.

I have tried fully powering the server down, and rebooting but no luck. I have checked the Integrated Management Log and it shows no events for today at all. Under the iLO Event Log it just shows " Server reset." for every reboot and nothing else.

Screenshot of the stage it gets to: https://imgur.com/a/bhud4f2

Any help would be appreciated thanks :)

Could be everything, but it has nothing to do with the OS … I would try a minimal config (1 CPU, 1 memory, 1 PSU, no PCI cards, no disks / Disk Backplane).

I agree with ar0na, sounds like you got a hardware problem if you’re not getting past POST. Depending on how comfortable you are with hardware (you should be if you’re F’ing around with homelabbing), then I would follow his advice and start with the bare min to get started and keep adding one thing at a time to find the problem.

Sometimes…this kinda crap popping up is the best way to learn.

    Good luck!
