You could just move the immovable sidebar to the bottom or to the right. Or you could enable auto hide.
No he can’t, didn’t you hear him? It’s UNMOVABLE!!
He did say that yes.
But this looks a lot like the gnome sidebar. Most likely in a Ubuntu install. In wich case the sidebar is very much movable.
I know ;-)
I’ve never done this orientation, but can’t you just pull the app window by clicking the top app bar? You just pull it away then move it back to the top of the screen to activate the auto window sizing/dock thingie and then it’ll just resize to the space? Might not work and it should’ve corrected when OP changed to this setting in the first place, but there’s always manual resizing of the application window too (though obviously annoying).
This made me laugh so hard
I am thinking, from when it is easier to cry on Lemmy/Reddit then just spent 5 minutes of your life googling and finding solution. Like bro, i was able to solve this as 15 years old kid, when i first met GNOME :) just try sometimes thinking first, then crying ;)
Right? Welcome to lunch and glad you’re here, everything is customizable… If you put in some legwork
You know what the problem with this post is? The picture isn’t tall enough.
Can’t beleieve I had to scroll through that.
… when the mildly infuriating thing is OP’s ignorance
Dude that’s most off that posts here. This place is significantly worse than the subreddit it’s based on
Can’t you set it to auto hide?
Where would I find that setting?
Click the Show more applications option Click Settings Search for Appearances Select the Dock option Select Position on screen from the drop-down menu Select Bottom You can also right click on any free space on the taskbar, click and hold on Drag to move, and pull the taskbar to the top.
Thanks
Christ, man, just go back to Windows.

It’s not immovable, it’s just locked so you don’t accidentally move it by clicking and dragging. Try right locking on the bar in a blank area lower down - the right click menu should have an option for moving it.
Excuse me, we’re gonna need you to add more snark to your comment. All you did was offer helpful advice as to how OP can fix their problem.
Can’t you configure it so that windows can’t go under or over the immovable sidebar
Yes, and you can also move tle immovable sidebar

If you are using Gnome just use Gnome tweaks and install “Dash to dock” extension(it has auto hide feature). There are many usefull extensions in the Gnome extensions site.

I use both regularly, I think macos acts a bit more like GNOME than KDE though. I definitely prefer gnome
