Everyone talks about servers and routers and racks but I dont see many posts about how you protect your electronics against power outages, power surges or brown outs
I’m using :
Panamax M5300-PM
APC J25B Line Conditioner with 3 hours back up battery for redundancy ( main server /router/ modem connects to this)
APC H15 x 2 Power conditioner
I lost a couple of motherboards because of sudden power surges before deciding to invest into some protection.
APC Symmetra LX 16kVa wired to a secondary panel. That panel feeds both the rack and computer receptacles in my office.
For extended outages I have a natural gas powered permanently installed backup generator. Generator start and transfer switch is fully automatic
As far as the rack and my office machines are concerned the power never goes out, even though my area experiences frequent brownouts and winter has a pretty good chance of seeing an extended blackout
Aside from UPS’s in my rack I have a whole-house surge protector in my main panel. It took the place of the 30a circuit breaker for the dryer and protects the entire house (plus it’s still a 30a breaker for the dryer).

In the wall I have a TP-Link Kasa KP115 so I can monitor the power draw of the rack. Then power goes into an APC SUA1500RMI2U which feeds a vertical PDU. My servers and router connect to the UPS using NUT so they can monitor the battery state and shut down when required.
