This might be an unpopular opinion but I feel like public parks should have less parking or smaller parking lots. Having a big lot destroys the very nature people are coming to enjoy. I’ve also noticed it leads to people just driving to the park and not even getting out of their cars. I’ve seen so many people just eating lunch in their cars by themselves, it’s so sad.
that only works well if public transit can pick up the slack, otherwise people will, ya know, have trouble getting there.
The ideal solution is to have more parks. When there’s many parking lots there will many people too. Sometimes even crowded.
The ideal solution is never the one that makes it to production. However, cutting off most park-goers due to your internal hatred for automobiles is about as far from ideal situation as you can get.
It’s a careful balance. I’ve seen parks where the locals can’t find a spot because the park is crowded from people coming by cars. Just a little sane planning is all I ask.
So what you are saying, is that too many people are using the parks, and as a local that makes you upset because you can’t find a spot(?) Seems to me that having parking is making the park MORE successful. You need bigger parks.
I’d rather have more local parks where people can go by foot, than one large park where people need to drive.
Also, I wouldn’t count overcrowded parks as a success.
Still doesn’t sound like cars are the problem here, it’s the lack of parks in general that is causing issues.

As someone that has eaten my lunch in my car at a park…it is way more enjoyable than Walmart. Sometimes just that little amount of respite is all people can afford or have time to enjoy.
Don’t worry, they are just a little up their own asses here. Their blind hatred for cars kinda overruns the common sense reality for most folks. They’ll call normal folks trying to get to work “carbrains” and other lovely invented slurs. I don’t get it, personally. I don’t know why they gotta be so stand-offish. Kinda kills the idea they are rallying behind, because why the heck do we need MORE reasons to hate one another? But, that’s what happens when you transplant a reddit community without understanding the divisive reasons the sub was founded. It’s just another way to drum up “us vs them” sentiment and divide us further.
IDK who you’re talking about “they.” Plenty of folks here drive motor vehicles. This community is a place to share and discuss alternatives to using cars as the only means of transportation. Sometimes we get cheeky and post memes about outrageous features of “car culture,” but the fact of the matter is we’re focused on other ways of getting around.
Then why call the community fuckcars, like reddit? It’s going to attract the same idiots who take the joke in earnest. Why not call it walkable-communities or alt-transport? Why put your most aggressive foot forward?

Wanting equitable transportation options is odd but dedicating your life to stalking any community that wants to discuss that then treating anybody without 6 cars in the driveway as a Saturday morning cartoon villain isn’t?

Yes, absolutely, but that has to come with accessible, comfortable, and affordable public transit alternatives. Otherwise you just make parks inaccessible.

I’m in rural West Virginia/Eastern Kentucky. If people couldn’t drive and park at Parks, there’d be no park traffic. Like, the parks here, no one would be there as there’s no other mode of transportation that’s viable. No public transport, way too damn far to walk/run/bike and I’m sure not getting my boat out to go down the river to the local park.
Also, I frequently take my spinning wheels to the park to spin with a few other people. I’m not packing a 20 pound spinning wheel and a mound of wool with my spinning accessories a country mile to the park lol. People do go there for other reasons than to sit and look at an overweight squirrel gorging itself on a bag of salted peanuts someone left it.

I know I was wish I could just park my car at a scenic view the other day tbh, but the parking lot it’s self did really detract from the view. If bike paths were more common, I’d love to sit on my bike and just eat a sandwhich looking at the trees/water.
Thats definitely one of the steps, probably one of the later ones rather than the firsts.
There needs to be alternatives to driving within the area first.
I worry this would further class decide in some ways. Where I am all the best green space is in the rich parts of town, the poorer folks need to drive. The little green-space poorer areas do have isn’t as well maintained either. I think this is coming at the problem from the wrong end, this should be the last step not the first.
