Baltimore City Public Schools notified tens of thousands of employees and students of a data breach following an incident in February when unknown attackers hacked into its network.

I believe that if your organization is not set up to handle cybersecurity for 30,000 people, then you should not be allowed to store data on those people. I hate getting a letter in the mail from some health records company (that I’ve never interfaced directly with) telling me that my information was hacked. I never gave them any info directly, but they had it, and they lost it. There should be criminal consequences for these incidents, not just fines.
