    People will debate for quite a long time whether the coming economic crash was desired by Trump and his cronies as a pump and dump scheme/as a way to give his rich buddies an opportunity to buy up large swaths of the economy (see Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein) OR whether it is a pure honest product of stunning incompetence and stupidity.

      I think it’s both. Trump is obviously a useful idiot that’s being played like a fiddle. The people stroking his strings want to have a controlling stake in the economy and he’s dumb enough to believe their claims that this is a good thing.
