Nice! Have you looked at Indian ragas and the scales/modes behind those? That was fun for me, coming from a western music background.
Yes! And I’ve also looked into Indian counting patterns (e.g., Sarah Thawer, the drummer, from whom I learned about the rupak taal). My favorite composer is Philip Glass and minimalism as a genre owes a lot to his experiences with Indian music. Unfortunately I got into Glass when I was in high school and nobody else gave a shit.
