Honestly this is why I think fears of one instance growing too large are overblown. If Lemmy.ml pulls a reddit, then I’ll just move to beehaw. In fact I already have a lemmy.ml and a kbin.social account. I might make a beehaw anyway.

Right, but unless there’s a migration or backup process I’m unaware of, doesn’t your entire user history get torched if an instance goes down?

I didnt want my account on .ml so chose .ca to be smaller from the start.

Beehaw is the second-largest instance according to the “Join a Server” page.
Side note: those user counts are drastically larger than they were two days ago.
