It’s those but so bad it’s a disability. Like how just because most people don’t hear something from time to time doesn’t mean they’re all hard of hearing

I’m reminded of that ex Soviet joke about how they always knew the government was lying about their own countries but were shocked to learn it was telling the truth about america
What else would we do? Like it’s not ok and we’re obviously not ok. But any effort to improve things is met with state violence and further propaganda to convince half the country that we’re the problem with America. I’m white, that makes me lucky when it comes to this.
You try explaining to your fellow Americans that it’s horrifying that cops do this they’ll say “everyone knows you need to do what the cops say and they were just a criminal anyways, and we need the cops to keep us safe.” They also love to say “maybe you should experience violent crime and see how you feel about cops then.” And let me say, I’ve experienced violent crime in the past year and my opinion of cops worsened.
But yeah huge swathes of Americans have problems with it. We marched over it in 2020, we’ve marched over it before and we’ll do it again too. But this country is barely a democracy, we’re bound between two parties, one that’s pro cop but thinks they need slaps on the wrist and more training when they murder people and the other that thinks that doing that is an unacceptable level of punishment. Oh and the deck is stacked in the latter’s favor.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if our nation collapses in the upcoming administration.
Most people on lemmy should be more afraid of a social credit system. Get arrested at food not bombs? That’s a penalty. Get raided at a gay bar? That’s a ding. Protest against deng? Ding. (Couldn’t help myself).
Financial credit score is more of a “we don’t give half a fuck what you do so long as you’re good with money”
We tried banning it but failed. My girlfriend was a teenager married to a marine when she was 17
Yeah that’s the thing that a lot of Americans seem to gloss over the horror of. We’ve accepted the legality of execution without trial for running from the cops or looking threatening in their eyes. Doesn’t matter if the cop thinks all black people look threatening. Failure to comply with verbal instructions? Death penalty, its not the cop’s job to confirm that you’re not deaf…

Because they don’t want the freedom to say what they want, they want to force everyone to listen. Lemmy is terrible for that as we’ll defederate them real fast. I forget who they were but I chose my instance over willingness to defederate from a bigot instance and if I have to I’ll change instances over it
Greening out is something else entirely. Its Marijuana induced nausea
Right up until they hit Germany and you yell about your spine
Honestly I’m starting to forget what feeling like a kid was like. I’m 30 and yeah I don’t have all the answers and shit, but my teenage years were defined by an internal conflict I resolved in college, my relationship with my parents (one died when I was in college the other disowned me when I was in college), and high school.
My college years were defined by the wild shit my previous sentence said I went through at that time, as well as my studies, financial and housing struggles, and a relationship that ended less than a year after I graduated, and I moved away from my hometown after college.
I’m 30, I’m married, I’ve continued growing as a person my whole life and have no intent to stop now, my financial struggles are those of an adult of my generation with a decent career. I don’t really have any of the same problems I had as a kid except like my health and disability issues. Sometimes I have traumatic flashbacks to my teenage years but I haven’t had one in years. My interests have even matured. Sure I still don’t have all the answers, but anyone who says they do is lying to you and possibly themselves, and they may be trying to take advantage of you. I’m not a kid pretending to be an adult, I’m a person, and it turns out kids are too.
Yeah i have a background in human factors engineering and something like that is just asking for unsafe driving. If it can wait until you aren’t driving then all you should see of it is a little notification telling you fo check it when needed.
As someone who drives a car lower to the ground, I want to go to there.
My car doesn’t have any of that fancy crap, but the fuel gage is an lcd and I hate it so much. Like it should be fine, except it just doesn’t work at certain temperatures and I live in an area where that means half the year.
It’s definitely striking how obviously miserable they are. Like I’m terrified of the harm they intend to cause me, and I’m tired and stressed so often, but holy fuck am I happier than they clearly are.
The cool kids at my school were actually generally pretty nice. A lot of us nerds had chips on our shoulders, but the reality is that as a weirdo loser, I was picked on by weirdo lovers and the popular kids were nicer to me than I was to them.
I don’t think they were all good people, given our school’s socioeconomic and racial demographics and the fact that it was a catholic school, I strongly suspect that some may have just appalling beliefs on some topics, but even when I ran into one years later she was nice and open minded.
Idk anyone else’s experience and I graduated in the early 10s and I know we were a weird generation in that regard.
Theocrats are rarely true believers. We’re headed towards the mammonite theocracy
