Articles in German make no real sense honestly. Deutsch is neuter, but since it’s mostly an adjective the article is that of the accompanied noun. The German language is female, the German court neuter and the German football field is male (the stadium is neuter though)

Basically all languages east of Germany. In Russian it’s niemcy or something, also meaning mute. And AFAIK it was less nit being able to learn but rather not willing. Germans formed their own communities and stuck together - or still to this day do.
