A geologist and archaeologist by training, a nerd by inclination - books, films, fossils, comics, rocks, games, folklore, and, generally, the rum and uncanny… Let’s have it!
Elsewhere:
It feels unnecessary. I get why they did it for Rogue One but they didn’t need to here.
I pay right around $20/month for unlimited movies.
I pay £17.99/month and that pays for itself if you go twice a month - I go at least twice a week and the last couple of months I’ve gone an average of four times a week. A friend also has the same pass to prompt him to get out to the cinema every other week.
My nearest multiplex is 15 minute’s drive and ads + trailers are 25-30 minutes. So I head out when the film starts.
had a stunt person permanently disabled under her watch.
Yeah, that was one of the most brutal non-fatal accident on set.
I did indeed, much better than first, one of my top ten horrors of the year.
I’m off to see Godzilla Minus Color on Sunday, saw it in the cinema first time around but this should be a novelty rewatch.
It’s all about him taking a date to a wedding and the disaster that ensues: Godzilla +1.
I’d have gone for coppery top notes on an earthy base, with an undercurrent of rotting meat and just the hint of old semen.
Speaking to Variety in 2022, Ball teased two ideas for future projects: One is a take on the Pied Piper legend, the other about three strangers who all see the same house in a dream. It’s unclear whether either of those ideas evolved into “The Land of Nod.”
It seems a good fit with the latter.

I’d guessed it was animated based on a leftover idea that Trachtenberg pitched (he apparently threw a lot of ideas at the studio execs and Badlands was the one that stood out), so it makes sense for them to run with their favourite three ideas.
I’d rather film studios gave him cash to make new, original films.
It’s something I leaned into more when the community was new as it is a handy way of getting people up speed and sparking discussion but, especially, with Halloween looming, every news outlet seems to be posting some kind of listicle and they are all feeling a bit… samey.
I did have an idea a while back for a semi-regular feature called “Build your own listicle” where someone posts a theme and we throw in suggestions to come up with our own. Partly inspired by the excellent recommendations everyone has made in replies to listicles before which are far superior to the actual article (one good thing about posting such links). So why not skip the article and jump straight to the recommendations?
edit: it’s the kind of thing being done here.
The Prodigal Son is said to be the best depiction of Wing Chun in a film and Lam Ching-ying really delivers, convincing as a bad ass martial artist, despite being dressed as a woman.
As a fan of comedy horror, I’d rate Encounters of the Spooky Kind higher as it isn’t just superb but, as they say, kickstarted a wave of supernatural king-fu films, especially Mr Vampire.
It does say:
he finds a doctor who is a man we might think is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.
Which feels like misdirection. A doctor in a zombie apocalypse is always up to no good.
At this point Lucasfilm’s movies start to feel like a tax scam.
Margot “Triple Threat” Robbie?
It’s me, I’m Cathy
She’s been inactive for a bit, probably preparing for this role by wandering the moors looking forlorn.
Bro who can even afford to go to the movies at this point.
First week of October I saw 6 films in the cinema. I usually watch at least 2 a week but for the last 6 weeks I’ve been averaging about 4 a week. I have an unlimited pass for £18/month and this month it is coming in at less than £1 a film.
I went to see it in the other week and it is still on at my local multiplex (6 screenings today).
