Yeah idk. Gonna ride the high seas
Until the share holders meeting these reports mean nothing
I think the pricing scheme Netflix announced was somewhat reasonable (an additional $8/month per “remote” subscriber) for middle class America. And they implemented the ability to transfer your profile to a new account. Also, the new “lower” ad supported tier as an attractive option for others probably attracted some to stay even through the inflation/cost-of-living crisis.
That being said, I bet it’s a short bump in monthly numbers, and Netflix subscriber numbers will revert back to slowing/decreasing.
The problem isn’t Netflix itself, it’s the whole industry (Hulu, MAX, Prime, Paramount+, Peacock, and on and on).
Surprising, we canceled netflix a couple months ago.
The only reason I stayed subscribed all the time is so my In-Laws could watch it without confusion. Now that they’ve been cut off, I’m starting to selectively subscribe.
Honestly ridiculous to have a headline like this for what’s assuredly a temporary bump.
We’ll see how the trend looks long-term. It’s too soon to tell anything significant.
Jea… most or even all of the new registrations probably come from the people whose account was previously terminated for sharing.
It’s funny that they report daily signups in absolute numbers and cancellations over an average of 3 days(?) in relative numbers:
Antenna confirms that cancellations have also gone up, but not as much as new sign ups. According to the company’s analysis, cancellations have increased by 25.6% since May 23 when compared to the prior 60-day average.
Pretty sure the new signups are below cancelled subscriptions when averaging the next 7 days or so
IMO, these are the kinds of moves that’ll catalyze a new piracy movement in the mainstream.
New? Never left. Piracy is mainstream. People stream things all day from all kinds of shady streaming sites, but they get to watch what they want.
Just be an American trying to watch Australian television. Pain in the ass to find anywhere but my wife finds stream links on Facebook – Piracy is mainstream.
Which by the way, if you ever enjoyed the show Survivor, Australian Survivor is actually better. It’s my guilty pleasure. Australian Survivor is on a whole other level.

Is Australian Survivor not just everyday life in Australia though? /s
