Shout out to Aleph One which has the trilogy for all platforms, open source. You can also snag it on iOS for free
Edit; oh, looks like it’s Aleph One that’s publishing it on steam. Wonder if it’ll be free there as well.
Sigh… of course THE classic exclusive Mac title is coming out for Windows only.
But Proton will make it work on Linux.
I can probably get it to work on Whiskey on Mac too.
We need a graphical refresh in a new engine, please. The plot and puzzles were so good.
I think the big challenge with modernizing it for a new engine is the invalidity to jump (except the grenade jump, of course). A few notable puzzles built around getting around the long way to the top of a a 3’ ledge
You don’t need to change anything other than the graphics and do some quality of life changes and additions. There’s no reason at all to add jump if the original doesn’t have it.
Now do Myth:TFL please! (And Soulblighter) These are painful to even barely get working on modern machines.
Honestly, just use full virtualization.
Modern hardware is fast enough that anything that’s too old to run directly is (usually) also no so demanding as to be a problem under full virtualization.
Yeah, I guess I’ll end up doing that. I managed to get some other old games going under various versions of Proton or vanilla Wine but Myth seems really finicky. WinXP VM it is, I guess!
I loved the marathon trilogy as a child. One of them was the first game I ever played on a multi monitor setup. Will be great to replay
This is a good game but goddamn are some of the level layouts and puzzles frustrating. Colony ship for sale, cheap anyone?
What’s the benefit to this release versus the “normal” Aleph One?
