Sorry if this is too dark for this sub. But, seriously, fuck cars.
Ok but tbh accidents can happen without the car as well… Could also have been a bus.
Could’ve been an airplane too. Could’ve been a falling satellite. Possibility is not the same as probability.
While I’m not fond of bus drivers, they’re more likely to be professionals respecting driving rules and safe working conditions, getting checkups, with the vehicles also getting regular checkups. There are also way fewer buses. The problem is cars.
Seems you’re right and buses are safer overall than cars, as, e.g., this study suggests: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5906382/
Obviously there are lots of different factors to account for to understand exactly why this is!

Yes, I love systems thinking.
That is exactly why we need to teach maths better at school. Especially probabilities and statistics.
People keep believing that wildly different probabilities are the same because “it can happen”.
It’s the very same thing with vaccinations and stuff like that.
Ok, let’s take a truck then…
In Canada we see cars hitting buildings much more often than buses hitting buildings. There are likely multiple reasons for that, but one factor is surely that the number of drunk bus drivers speeding down the streets is much lower.
Obtaining a driving license is too easy and losing it is too hard.
I doubt that there are less drunk bus or truck drivers.
But drunk driving in general should result in getting the license reworked for at least a year.
I doubt that there are less drunk bus or truck drivers.
This seems strange to me. Why do you doubt this? Even if bus / truck drivers drive drunk at the same rates as car drivers, there would be less drunk bus / truck drivers due to the numbers.
The absolute number is whats important because each drunk driver you add is extremely dangerous to society.
Also if society moved away from car driving, the loss in car vehicle miles traveled would not be compensated for by equal increases in truck / bus vehicle miles traveled because trucks and busses aggregate many trips together.
Many truck drivers in my country are from Poland and alcoholics (they have terrible working hours)
they still drive cars in their free time and are still way less common than other car drivers
-
No they are living in Poland and don’t drive their car around in Germany
-
No they don’t have free time.
-
What a racist comment.

Pretty typical of a National Front Party member

Right, but… it wasn’t.
it rarely is
that’s statistics!
